伊ヴェネチアにて2021年11月21日（日）まで開催中の第17回ヴェネチア・ビエンナーレ国際建築展では、台湾のインスタレーション「Primitive Migration from/to Taiwan」がPalazzo Delle Prigioniにて公開されている。

ビエンナーレのキュレーター、ハシム・サルキスが提唱するテーマ「How Will We Live Together ?」にも答える同展は、国立台湾美術館からの依頼を受けて、Divooe Zein ArchitectsとDouble-Grass International Co.が手がけている。

都市と農村での現地調査を通じて自然の開発と保護のバランスを考察するそうで、学際的なデザインファーム Divooe Zein Architectsは今回、現在およそ2,300万人を抱える台湾が、山や森、海に囲まれた環境において独自の生活様式と建築文化をどのように維持できるのか、5つの既存の建築プロジェクトを通じてその方法を探ろうとする。

台北郊外にあるワークショップ「Siu Siu – Lab of Primitive Senses」では、植物学者や伝統医学の専門家、台湾原住民のアーティスト、気候学者、スピリチュアリスト、ヨガのインストラクターらとともに、都市文明での生活と森のあいだにある「揺れ」を探求。

一方、「Semi-ecosphere glass house for isolation and meditation」は、ガラスリサイクル工場と共同で2017年に作り上げたプロジェクトで、五感を刺激して「自然への負担を最小限に抑え、自然と共存する」という考えのもと、洞窟のような環境において異世界体験を提供するという。

CMPビレッジと共同で行った「The Forest BIG」は実験的なコミュニティを作る試みで、銀色のメッシュで覆われた建物に教室やワークショップを設け、地元の人間や自然の活動から得た経験や知識をそこに融合するそうだ。

そのほか、バリ島の森で自由なライフスタイルと自然保護のあいだの可能性を探求する「Nature Monastery in Bali」や、採石場に隣接する丘の自然の美しさを考えた「Lab of Primitive Perception」といったプロジェクトも披露している。

Divooe Zein Architectsを率いるDivooe Zeinは、同展について「建築が私たちの環境や感覚、感情、経験などにどのように応えるのかを調査し、文明世界と自然とのあいだにある建築の役割を強調することで、ビエンナーレの中心テーマともつながっています」と語っている。
